unexpected

I think I want to try something of a new schedule. Instead of writing in the morning, I'm going to set aside time to write at night. I would like my daughter to adhere to a good early enough sleep schedule so she will get enough sleep, which means going to bed at 10PM. If I was super tired, I would definitely fall asleep, maybe even before then but I find myself in front of the tv, going through the myriad of streaming options and with the desire to binge entire series. Oh, Netflix. You are terrible. So this is what I'm going to do. Everyday, need to be back up in the room writing by 10PM. This way too, maybe my daughter will get the idea that it's time to retire for the day.

For me, writing at night becomes more of a review of the day. Useful for journaling but maybe different from the kind of writing that I did in the morning. Well, that remains to be seen. But this way too, I can stop obsessing over posts and just set aside one hour max and hit publish. While it's tempting to listen to music while writing, every little sound is magnified in the quiet of the night and I don't want to disturb anyone or keep anyone from falling asleep. But also, I can think better when there is no music. Looking back, I don't know how I was able to get any writing done at the Capital One Cafe. It is so loud in there.

Today, I think I did at least 3 loads of laundry and actually folded and put them away. It does make me feel better that I'm not seeing mounds and mounds of them no matter where I go. I also had time for a nice walk in the rain and a leisurely lunch with my husband. Oh, that was funny. We were crazy to have walked from the house to Habit Burger. It was cold and the rain was hard enough that we needed umbrellas. This is Pikmin Bloom that is inspiring us to go on these untimely walks. When we got to Habit, we were happy to note that they had at least the $10 meal deal back and we ordered that. I used to prefer the $8 one that had the half chicken sandwich (it has avocado, yum) and the tempura green beans so my husband had to ask me again to make sure I was fine with a burger. I may have complained that it was messy the one time I had it. It's a toaster, like it's not on a bun but rather on a piece of toast and today, it was fine. Came with a salad and the large drink, of course. As we were about to leave, the manager came up and said, "See you next week!" I guess he knows his customer's habits. He definitely recognizes my husband now.

The weather today, started with a little snow actually, but it was mostly rain the rest of the day. Despite this non-stop rain, my neighbor and his son decided to stop by with a surprise for us. They rang the bell when I happened to be sitting in the living room watching the news so I opened the door as soon as I saw it was them. His wife made egg tarts and they just wanted to give us some as a thank you for all the books and stuff that we gave them. That was very nice of them and the egg tarts were a delight. My husband sure loves them. I can't say that I didn't enjoy them myself. I had two.

These are delicious! Second layer underneath.

I'd been trying to clean up a little at a time and had one of the moving boxes still in the hallway. This is maybe year 4 now, in this house? In the box were old books that my kids had outgrown. They took the ones with sentimental value and I threw out the ones that were just crap. Since a lot of the materials were for second grade and below, I gathered them all up, added lots of crayons and a small bag of candy and immediately after Halloween, gave them the box. I guess they enjoyed it. I'm just glad nothing went to waste. Truthfully, I still have many boxes of crayons and other materials that are more elementary than middle school but I will just try to do inventory again maybe in the summer.

While the student was here, I got her to help me with the other daughter's room. We got through maybe half the room. I think the kid is overwhelmed by the mess and she didn't want any part of the clean up. Between me and the student, we sorted the small book case, a couple of tables littered with things and I got to weed the closet. Packed three boxes of stuffed animals in there and created a little more space in the room to move. We said goodbye to the bunny chair and I told her she could use the sleeping back to lounge on the floor if she hasn't showered. This is our way of keeping the bed from getting dirty from being outside. We got to vacuum, change the sheets, found unopened toys that promptly got donated to a toy drive. Feels good. I hope they find a new home with someone who will appreciate them.

Playlist Recommendation: Tempted, Squeeze (this was playing at Habit and reminds me of fun times with my kids)
