concert night

The winter concert was very nice. It was a little less crowded than usual, I realized later because 4th grade wasn't there. I can't complain though. I was able to enjoy myself more. I didn't hear crying children and my sister in law and her boyfriend made it. I missed having my older daughter there but my husband actually came to watch. And when it was done, it seemed my daughter felt ill. She said she had a stomachache and it was really bad. She was hungry, her chest hurt. With the list of complaints, it almost sounded as if I needed to rush her to the ER but in truth, I think it was mostly performance anxiety. Add that she had the longest day, what with Walk & Talk Club having its first run today so she stayed in school an extra hour and a half, and really, she doesn't get enough sleep. I also told her to just have a small snack but maybe we should have had dinner at 4:40. It's not like we didn't do that the day before. In the end, I ran out to Panera to pick up the food and then we ate when we got home. I sure hope the spring concert won't be like this.

Here's another thing that I realized. I don't know if I'm still getting used to the writing schedule being at night but right now, I would rather be watching tv. I wish I could put my feet up and revel in programming that doesn't require much thought. Just sit and watch. But of course, my husband is doing exactly that so it isn't like I could anyway. I stuck to the schedule so here we are. I guess it still works.

It was nice that pick up was later than usual today. I had a little extra time to just play guitar. I was amazed that the Yamaha fit in the hard case. I am really happy that it did. It's not just because I worried that I wasted my money if nothing fit in the case. That really isn't an issue since I could return it. But now I have renewed interest in it. I honestly love the size of it. I just couldn't figure out why it sounded super jangly when recorded and my fingers hurt after playing it awhile. I read somewhere that it might be great for when I'm just using fingers. I really need to learn the terminology. What is fingerpicking or is it plucking that I'm referring to? I'm not sure what the differences are so these are all going to be asked on my lesson on Saturday. In the meantime, I'm wondering if changing the strings will make a difference. I put Elixirs on the Yamaha but maybe I should have changed them to silk and steel and put the Elixirs on the Epiphone. <sigh> I can't wait for Saturday.

Playlist Recommendation: Saturday in the Park, Chicago
