take a deep breath

"But this is me swallowing my pride standing in front of you, sayin' I'm sorry for that niiiiiight..."

My baby girl and I have had a good time poking fun at some of these songs where the singer has to sing the longest verses seemingly without needing to take a breath. I would sing along and pretend to pass out at the end of the line as I run out of breath. Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts is a favorite victim. Have you heard Back to December? I'm currently enjoying the Dan + Shay cover and have added it to my Dan + Shay/Rascal Flatts playlist. I don't know exactly why I put them together. Maybe they're both country artists? I don't have a huge country pop vocab. It could be the Dan + Shay songwriting was reminiscent of the few Rascal Flatts songs that I love (none of which were actually written by the band) or maybe Shay Mooney's tenor reminds me a little of Gary LeVox. One thing is for sure, those dudes can sing.

Speaking of singing, as I finally got my recording woes mostly sorted out, I was also able to tap my local Guitar Center for some lessons. I had previously made an arrangement with a guitar teacher for a demo lesson but when I told my husband about it, he seemed less than thrilled that the teacher would be coming to the house to give the lessons. Truthfully, I wasn't super comfortable with that either. I recall going over the subject with the teacher, asking if that was the only option and it seemed that it was. Thankfully, I hadn't yet given him the address and I had ample time to cancel the demo because when I picked up my interface, I found that Guitar Center offered lessons in audio recording. I think those are the lessons I really want right now. I can record stuff but it's what to do after recording that I don't understand. The demo lesson was earlier today and I think I'm going to commit to one month and see how much I can learn. In the meantime, I've noticed that there are these boys that hang out at Guitar Center. They go there and just play with the instruments and the staff seemingly just lets them. I could probably spend a good hour in their acoustic guitar room and just listen to the differences between the instruments. The manager granted me a decent chunk of his time explaining the concept of the acoustic/electric to me yesterday when I inquired about a second hand Martin that I saw behind the counter. It had all the electronics in it and I wanted to know how that worked. Maybe I should bring my music and practice there next time. I already know it wouldn't be the first time that they've seen that.
