Hair Ruminations and Fried Chicken
Netflix House opens today. I go to the mall a lot and I had been curious about it but maybe not curious enough to go today. I have very little knowledge of the concept but Netflix has been a thing in our lives since my husband and I first got together. He had the mail order subscription. Now we have the streaming service. One of the shows I have quite enjoyed is The Diplomat. In it, Keri Russell plays Kate Wyler, ambassador to the United Kingdom. Although we have nothing in common except maybe our age, I find her to be increasingly relatable. One particular point where I feel a connection? The hair.
If anyone remembers Keri Russell in Felicity, how the big curly hair was a thing and there was a whole controversy when she cut it short. I never related to it then because I don't have curly hair but its constant state of disheveledness in The Diplomat was something I understood. I don't know what happened. Age? Hormones? My hair was never a problem. It was that part of me that never needed so much maintenance and it was never an issue until maybe sometime in the last ten years. I tell my children that the magic has simply left me and transferred to them. This is fine with me but I do have to deal with it. I never knew what it was like to need to do something to my hair before leaving the house to go to work or school. I might brush it, or stick it in a hair tie/claw clip and it always looked fine. Styling was for special occasions. Not anymore.
Now I have all sorts of styling tools and products. My favorite has to be the Hot Tools SteamStyler, followed by a large barreled curling iron. As for product, Redken One United and Beachwaver Great Barrier Heat Protectant Hair Spray. I'm amazed I have to use all these things now. Well maybe not on a daily basis. I also have a collection of caps and hats designed for sun protection but also when the front part of my hair is especially unruly. I have these two cowlicks, one on each side, and flattening them requires time and effort, which I don't always have or don't want to exert. The SteamStyler can relax them with just good old steam so my hair is protected from heat damage but I have to say, I love the big waves I can get from the curling iron. It only took me 30 years but I feel like I finally know how to use it.
I just came back from a walk in the Town Center and saw this food truck parked in front of Indigo on my way back. It makes me want fried chicken! It doesn't have to be wings and I don't think I want it from the food truck but I am definitely going to suggest it for dinner.
Playlist Recommendation: Landslide, Fleetwood Mac
