going for a drive

We had a nice dinner at a Hawaiian Barbeque and Ramen place last night. The rain was crazy non-stop and we drove to Haverford which isn't exactly close. It wasn't even 5PM and it looked like it was properly nighttime already. But the food was good and with the weather being the way it was, truly the perfect moment for a nice warm bowl. It was still rainy on the drive home so we ditched plans of going to Target. I did start feeling better last night so hopefully the aches and pains were really just a passing thing.

It was great to go for a slightly longer drive, just to have that feeling of the family being complete in that little space. I drifted in and out of sleep to some degree. I know the kids were too. This is not unlike the long hauls to Florida which we'd done maybe 10 times? We had tried it all sorts of ways too. A straight drive, leaving at 4PM with just a few short stops, arriving at our destination the next day before it was even 10AM. We tried leaving later and making an overnight stop somewhere in Virginia or South Carolina or Georgia. We've tried making two stops as well and on the last trip, we took a plane. It was fine three years ago but will probably be less ok now.

Niagara Falls from the Canada side

My husband generally prefers road trips and we've driven as far up as Canada, like on the trip to Niagara Falls and then Toronto. When we just had our first child, we took her to Maine, Quebec and then Montreal as a baby. We always talk about going to Chicago which feels far but as I've mapped it, is potentially about 200 miles closer. We could even go via Pittsburgh, pick up the student and then road trip to my cousin Judy who I haven't seen in... I really don't recall the last time I ever saw Judy. This is really something to think about and I think I'd like to give my cousin a call.
