This Old Mouse
I'm looking through drawers, boxes and bins and I keep finding dinosaurs. I wish I meant actual dinosaurs (did you know that they're trying to make dinosaurs come back to life? No, I'm not talking about Jurassic Park, but actual extinct species... I think it was a dire wolf, but close enough!). I mean, old... stuff. I was looking for a portable drive with a USB-C connector and I find it, in the box and all, because that's how I roll. I'm a box keeper. This is actually a good thing because according to the guy at the register at MicroCenter, if you need to return something, it has to be in its original packaging. Yep, I have the original packaging from 2018. What? You won't accept returns from 2018? But that's only... 7 years ago. Ok, thanks.
I also found an old mouse, not the one I was looking for, which would have been in its original packaging and probably unopened. I found one that I don't recall purchasing (probably my husband who bought it) and found that it still had the battery inside and it's corroded. But listen, I have a box of alcohol wipes ready here and after a quick clean up, battery change... the mouse still works! It's time to retire the older mouse that still had the long dongle. Don't worry, I took the battery out and moved it to the mouse that I'm now using.
Look, I found the Nook too! Still have the original box, but of course. Plugged it in and now it's charged but I don't know if there is anything in it that I want to read. My husband got it for me one birthday. Not that I asked for it because I also have an even older Kindle somewhere, one of the earliest editions that's black and white and it's functionality is limited to reading eBooks. You know what I realized? After marrying, now I have so much stuff. I moved to this country 20 years ago with one suitcase and a large Caboodle full of makeup which they heavily inspected at airport security because it had, among other things, my precious Dior loose powder that was recommended by a makeup artist who also happened to be a Mac (Apple, not MAC makeup) enthusiast. Now I have bins and bins full of outdated electronics (and also makeup hehe). This is all testament to how quickly technology moved over the last 20 years, really over the last 50+ but also because I have married "Master Shopper" and there is no one better at finding the best price for anything under the sun. This can result in the purchase of many a thing that is truly not needed, all in pursuit of a deal. I wouldn't trade that for anything though. Uh, wait a second, Apple Watch notification. Meteor Shower tonight... ok. I have a friend who keeps referring to this as an iWatch and I'm sure this friend isn't the only one who does. It brings a smile to my face, remembering my friend and that little detail. We don't see each other often enough. Now that some of the kids are in college, it's crazy, our kids are going to the same school too! What are the chances of that?
I got up so late this morning. I just wanted to sleep in because there's no school and you know, I never get enough sleep. Now I know that if I don't get out of the room until after 11AM, someone is bound to check on me. It's nice to know that they are now all self-sufficient enough to not need me to prepare anything for breakfast and not die. Little one makes her appearance first, forgetting to knock as usual, but the door is unlocked so she opens it and proudly declares that she had toast! Also, a quick reminder that you should always start your day by hugging your baby. We hug. It's been many, many years since I had a baby, but my girls, they will always be my babies. The second person who checks in is the student, the original baby, and she wants to call. Of course, I will take a call. And while on this call, the husband shows up, "Just making sure you're not dead!" Oh thank you. Glad to know you all care so much.
What it was really: I was stuck in this state of half awake, half dreaming since 6am. My alarm is typically set for 6:20AM although it's not unusual for me to snooze a few times. I skipped today's alarm but I still woke up around the usual time. I just didn't really stay up. My prefrontal cortex was so overloaded because I had all these goals, so many decisions to make, and... ok, I just wanted to say prefrontal cortex because it sounds cool. I have also been watching Brilliant Minds and the show revolves around a bunch of doctors in neuro. So, what part of the brain is responsible for skills in music? Wait a second, it's the 2:30PM alarm. I have that as a reminder to pick up my daughter from school. But, no school today. So I'll take this opportunity to check on her instead.
Playlist Recommendation: Danny's Song, Loggins & Messina
