the right shoes
It's chilly today. Coming from me, the one person who is perpetually hot, that's huge. It's still October. I can still wear my white t-shirt and shorts around the house. Would it make a difference if I just wore gloves and my house boots with it? I have house boots!
I don't like walking around in socks so I've put a pair of insoles into some Ugg-style boots from Target. Clearance, I'm sure. Size 11 is usually not too hard to find in the clearance section. The insoles are for support but as I wear them infrequently now, I'm wondering if I should switch the insoles out for a pair that is less supportive but is meant for when you don't want to wear socks. So many options, right? I am also the insoles queen around here. A couple of years ago, one of the substitute teachers complimented my footwear and mentioned that she was in search of some proper shoes to deal with the long hours of standing that we do. I think she troubled herself to go to a foot specialist, maybe even one those good feet stores. I told her I just buy Dr. Scholl's insoles and put them in all my shoes. It's tough navigating that aisle though. Have I mentioned that there are so many options? Some of them really are better than others and I don't necessarily just go by whatever the box says. Trial and error is where it's at. I have bought nearly every kind there is. They do last for me because I rotate my shoes but I have favorite shoes and favorite insoles. I was upset that they discontinued one particular kind that worked especially well for me. I tried to find all that I could and buy them all. Target, CVS, I even had my husband on Walmart.com and believe me, if I said, I went to Walmart to get something, then it was probably out everywhere else. That said, sometimes I think Dr. Scholl's just changes the packaging and sells the same things. Or maybe they think they're improving something by making changes because R&D needs to do something. Honestly, if it ain't broke...
Normally I wear my Adidas slides as they have been the only supportive pair of slippers I have found over the last few years. Costco cleared them out a number of years back and since they had tons in my size, my husband hoarded them. Hopefully they don't disintegrate over time because if they last, I should have enough pairs to cover me for the rest of my life. I've only replaced them once, so far. I also keep a second pair in rotation for when we travel and we did a lot of that over the last 4 years.
I haven't been shopping for clothes or shoes lately so I haven't seen the options but I do check out Uggs every year. Every couple of years, I might get a new one. Something taller, something shorter, something in a color I don't yet have or a color that I don't usually see. Or maybe because it's Navy and that is now my favorite color when it comes to clothes so naturally, I should have Navy Uggs. One thing I don't have is anything slipper or clog style. I have only ever gotten boots. Tasman or Disquette? Hmmm... one of the things that has bothered me about these Uggs is that I see teens wearing them to school. I'm a huge proponent of dressing appropriately for everything. Going to school, whether you're the student or the teacher, there has to be some sort general style that puts comfort at the forefront, sure, but without sacrificing decorum. Pajama Day is the most puzzling thing for me. At this rate, some kids dress for school as if everyday was pajama day. Put me in the "does not participate" column, please.
Ok, I'm off to do my research now. Reaper or Ableton? I'm done with Tracktion Waveform. Last night, I recorded a lengthy session using the usb mic which had never given me any trouble before. Well, last night, half way into the recording, the static arrived. I mean, what are we talking about here? Cables touching? Interference? Buffering? While I'm certain that no perfect software exists. I just need to find something stable enough, doesn't crash all the time and likes my equipment enough so I don't have problems like this. I've packed away the Mbox for now because I'm resigned to the idea that I am going to buy a new interface but I'm waiting. From what I understand, there are DAWs that come with the purchase of a Focusrite so I want to explore those. If limited time trial versions are what I will get, I want to make sure I can maximize. Maybe I'll even try ProTools again.
