setup required
Tada! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a desk! And studio monitors! This is by no means a completed setup but if only for one day, I absolutely enjoyed it. Hopefully no more whining about having to put my laptop on the bed and being so tired from moving things around. The instruments are still in another room but I don't mind having them in several places. I always liked having one guitar downstairs in the living room and one upstairs in the bedroom. I'll just grab the instrument that I'll be recording with, when I have recording in my schedule.
The crazy thing that finally made me say, let's get this desk in place now, is the headphone holder that didn't work. It's always the little things, huh? I bought two different kinds and I'm glad I did. The second holder I got is one of those things that clamps on to your desk and unless I had the desk, well then I couldn't use it. This is an old Ikea desk that was bundled with a matching bookcase. We had it for my daughter up until maybe 8th or 9th grade and when we designed her current, extra long desk, we stowed it in the basement along with the bookcase which we were actually still using.
I was always annoyed that I didn't have a spot for the headphones. There was always this issue of, where do I put it down? Having the desk now, I could hang it up. I also moved the microphone back to the original desk stand that it came with because the height of the desk seems like it could work. As long as I have the stool at its lowest position, I may actually be able to record with the mic this low. This frees up the mic stand for my other microphone, in case I want to switch it up and try recording with that. I'm really curious if the Nova will give me good results after all these years. The only thing is, I will need to get an interface for it. Still researching my options at the moment.
I also made use of the desk lamp that the student brought to college and then returned home unused. The color goes with all the things on the desk. And those ancient monitors look brand new! Still working on fixing the mess of cables but the setup is otherwise ready to go live.
